Before and after

Before and after, by concern

Each "before" is a real photo. Each "after" is what our Smile Studio drew on it: an illustration of what bonding or whitening could change, not a treatment result.

  • Only your teeth change in the picture. Your face, lips and gums stay as they are.
  • It's an illustration, not a promise of a result. A dentist has to examine your teeth and tells you what is suitable for you.
  • The AI guide is not a dentist and gives no clinical advice. Prices it quotes come only from Dublin clinics' own published price lists.

Every published price

Every published price in Dublin, side by side

Composite bonding (also called dental bonding or cosmetic bonding) is tooth-coloured resin a dentist shapes onto your teeth to cover chips, close gaps or even out worn edges. In Ireland only a registered dentist can do it. We read the price list of every Dublin clinic we could find that publishes one: 28 do, and the middle starting price is €245 a tooth.

Starting prices run from €130 at Dental Care Ireland Swords to €325 at Shelbourne Dental Clinic. The highest top price, €450, is at Docklands Dental and Seapoint Clinic. Names vary: some clinics call it composite bonding, others composite veneers or instant veneers. The bars use each clinic's own label and figures.

What it would cost you

€1,470 to €1,500

6 teeth of full bonding at the middle of 28 published prices (Dublin). Lowest published start: €130 a tooth at Dental Care Ireland Swords.

How this is worked out

We take every Dublin clinic that publishes a per-tooth price, then use the middle (median) of their lowest prices and the middle of their highest prices, times the number of teeth. Where a clinic gives one price, that price counts as both. Edge bonding uses the three clinics that price it separately. It is an estimate from published prices, not a quote: your dentist sets the price after looking at your teeth.

Who can do bonding, and how to check

Only a registered dentist can do composite bonding in Ireland. Section 51 of the Dentists Act 1985 makes it an offence for anyone else to practise dentistry. The same goes for professional whitening: gels above 0.1% hydrogen peroxide can only be supplied by a dentist, who must supervise the first use (HPRA).

The Dental Council keeps the register, and you can search it by name or registration number. Our step-by-step guide shows how. There is no specialist register for cosmetic dentistry: the only recognised dental specialties in Ireland are oral surgery and orthodontics (Dental Council).

What bonding changes, and what it doesn't

Bonding adds resin to the tooth's surface to cover chips, close small gaps or even out edges; it does not move teeth or change the gums. When you look at any clinic's before and after photos, check that the light and angle match, and ask to see the treating dentist's own cases rather than stock images, as Docklands Dental advises (Docklands Dental). The pictures on this page are Studio illustrations, not anyone's treatment.

Three costs people miss

  1. The first appointment. Dublin clinics list exams and cosmetic consultations from free (DentiCare, 3Dental) to €120. See the fee next to each clinic on the cost page.
  2. Whitening first. Bonding resin does not whiten, so if you want brighter teeth, whiten before bonding. Take-home trays cost €250 to €555 in Dublin. Whitening prices.
  3. Upkeep. Clinics quote 5 to 7 years before bonding needs redoing, and chips can be repaired in a visit (O’Neill Dental Care).

Edge bonding, where only the biting edge is built up, costs less: €150 to €300 a tooth at the three Dublin clinics that price it separately. Edge bonding prices.

Questions

Price, timing and the rest

What does the first appointment cost?

Dublin clinics list exams and cosmetic consultations from free (for example DentiCare in Phibsborough) to €120. Sending a request through this site is free and books nothing.

How long does composite bonding take?

Usually one visit: DentiCare says "usually in one visit" and under an hour (DentiCare), while Dentaltech describes its bonding as done in two visits (Dentaltech). After you send a request, we pass it on within 1 working day.

How much is composite bonding in Dublin?

Composite bonding costs €130 to €450 a tooth in Dublin, going by the 28 clinics that publish a price. The middle starting price is €245 a tooth, so six teeth start at about €1,470. Every clinic is listed on the cost page.

Who is allowed to do composite bonding in Ireland?

Only a registered dentist. Under section 51 of the Dentists Act 1985 it is an offence for anyone who is not a registered dentist to practise dentistry (Dentists Act 1985). You can check any dentist on the Dental Council register in a minute.

Is composite bonding painful?

Clinics describe it as generally not painful: the procedure is minimally invasive and usually needs no anaesthetic (O’Neill Dental Care). Your dentist will tell you if your teeth need anything first.

How long does composite bonding last?

Dublin clinics quote 5 to 7 years with proper care, sometimes longer (O’Neill Dental Care). Bonding can usually be repaired in a single visit if a piece chips.

Should I whiten my teeth before bonding?

Yes, if you want whiter teeth at all. The resin used in bonding does not respond to whitening, so clinics recommend whitening first and then matching the bonding to the new shade (O’Neill Dental Care). See teeth whitening prices in Dublin.

Can I claim tax back on composite bonding?

Possibly. Revenue lists "veneers or Rembrandt type etched fillings" as non-routine dental treatment, which gets tax relief at 20% with a Med 2 form from your dentist (Revenue). Ask the clinic before treatment whether it will sign a Med 2 for your bonding.
